What is your skin saying?

We've all been there: we hit our late 20's and suddenly the Dove bar soap isn't cutting it. We notice our reflection is showing more concerns than yesterday, but how do we know what it all means? Well, that's where I come in. Seeing an esthetician does not signal you've failed to care for yourself; it actually means the opposite. So, what is the mirror telling you?
Well, many things! It's first and foremost going to tell you how much water you're drinking and how much sleep you're getting. The fine lines, the sunken eyes, the dullness? Yep, all signs point to one too many espresso martinis and too few Zzz's. While topical products are going to be an amazing help, it all starts from the inside. Diet, hydration, sleep, and stress all have a cascading effect on our skin, because our skin is our largest organ as well as our body's first line of defense against disease. When we have any imbalance internally, our skin acts up to signal to the brain through the eyes, "Hey, what gives?!" Ever get a pesky breakout after indulging too many sweet treats on vacay? Your skin is telling you to lay off the sugar, it's doing your collagen no justice. Same with those wiry little spider veins that cropped up out of nowhere-- they're telling you to put on some sunscreen (yes, sun exposure can cause spider veins if you're not protected).
Many moving parts contribute to what our skin is conveying to us through its surface, and your best lifeline is a licensed professional trained to put the puzzle pieces together and educate you as they go. Any client of mine can tell you I'm somewhat of a nerd when it comes to esthetics and the knowledge just sort of purges out of me without warning, and they leave with confidence that they have a friend to help navigate their skincare journey. Consider this your formal invitation to my treatment room, my peaceful corner of refuge for all who just need a little reassurance after meeting the evidence of metamorphosis that stares back at us one morning.
